Timmy Time
A television stop motion animation like Timmy Time works and animates like other animation but takes a while to prepare and to make as it takes time to film and dress the set and puppets . A stop motion like Timmy time uses clay and silicone puppets as the characters with wire skeleton within to help the animator move the body easily. Aardman Animation, the company that made Timmy Time specialises in stop motion animation for children television making relevant shows like Wallace and Gromit. The show take a long time to make so each animator makes 7 seconds of footage a day resulting in the show taking over a week to film. |

Structure
The television started as a spin-off of the famous Shaun the Sheep show which was also made under Aardman Animation. Ideas are created resulting in draft scripts and if liked final shooting scripts. The scripts are very important to the production as they layout the story, dialogue setting everything making it easier for the director to know whats going on as well as storyboarders. |
The director takes the script and chances it to every shot so when given to the storyboarders they can draw out each shot for an animatic. This is done so then the animators can follow the storyboard picture to get the positions of the puppets and set correct. The director also designs a set plan showing the puppet placement, setting, props and camera angles. This is so that the set designers can stat making the set out of clay ready for production.

Techniques
The set design make also make clay and silicone set pieces like trees and walls to be placed in the background this help make the animation feel more realistic. The camera is set up following a previously made animatic of drawings of the idea to layout the structure of the show, the puppets are placed onto the set in the correct position, when all is ready the first shot is made. |

Structure
With the making of toy story the first thing done is concept art to try and figure out the right character style for the story to better match the storyline and character development and personality. An example of the concept drawings is clear with the below art of Buzz. It shows him much smaller than we know and different colours. Also the helmet is much bigger than the Buzz we see on out screens now. This shows that the concept art is important as it helps to make the character look the best it can to it high standard it was at the end of the animation development. After the concept art comes the script and storyboard these piece of preproduction at helpful for each other as they give the production team the script so they know what is happening in the film. And with the storyboard this gives a visualisation of how they want the animation to look allowing the animators to start to look at different techniques to get the animation going. When this is done the next process is the sounds and dialogue this is where the actors came in a recorded the voice overs and the team made the music and ambient sounds.

Other pieces of concept art was made of the environment the characters were in. This is important to allow the environment style to match the style of the characters within it. The environment; like the characters, was constantly changing as people within the team didn't agree on the environment and character concepts due to focus group analysing the different concept pieces.
Although this video is the voice over for the third movie in the series it gives you an idea of what the voice over stage was like.
After the stages above the animation process can start. Here the characters start to come to life and start to be developed and set into the story.
Techniques
The whole animation is in 3D which takes a while to finalise. A stage of the animation process is to make the characters themselves where they are able to move about which is called 'rigging and skinning' which brings them to life. Next stage is actually getting the characters to move and flow with the story. This means their facial expressions and movements need to be smooth and flowing. The lighting for the animation needs to be right as well as this is important for setting the scene for the animation with out it it'll look weird and not realistic. Also for children the lighting can help them differentiate the atmosphere being created in terms of happiness and sadness. |
