CONDUCT TESTING ON THE FINISHED INTERACTIVE MEDIA PRODUCT
My App
0:00 - Here I am clicking on the app this gives us an idea of the loading time within the app as soon as it is opened, the video shows that the app opens quickly moving from loading screen to home screen quickly. This also shows that I have optimised all the pictures, backgrounds to the platform showing the apps performance is high quality. 0:10 - This is the first time we see the interactive menu at the bottom being used, I click on the map and the page automatically changes, this shows that the functionality works to a high standard and its easy to use for my target audience which is what the audience wants. This also shows me the load time for the map itself, the video shows that it is fairly slow this issue is to do with internet connection also because a map is a large piece of information the app needs to optimise but when loaded the app shows that the optimisation is good for the platform as the map is easy to move and probably much easier on an app device as they can use touchscreen. This also shows the user interaction and how easy it is for the user to navigate the app which is what the client wants. 0:47 - Next page shows how the app is optimised for the platform as the scrolling text box can work on a apple product which it can as the user can scrolling using touch screen. Also this helps me identify the accuracy of the product and whether the information is accurate about Starbucks however i know it is as the information is from the official Starbucks page. 1:08 - The next page which is the events page, this shows me the functionality of the product externally and how the interaction of the hyperlink that takes the user to a webpage. The hyperlink helps me understand the loading times and how long it takes for the user to navigate externally. The loading time is to do with internet which helps me understand that for the user to have an enjoyable time on the app the internet must be good especially if the content they want is external. 2:06 - The last page on the "History of Cambridge" shows me that the app is not fully complete as this page is blank which shows that the completeness of the app is not great but the image of the background is optimised for the platform as everything fits.
Test Plan To test my app I am going to have some of my target audience of students look at my app and see how it works, this way i will be able to receive audience feedback of what the audience and user wants to see. This will be the form of a survey the questions covered within the survey are:
Does the Cambridge Guide app work?
Does the navigational features work for the app? Are you able to navigate easily on the app?
Does the content load?
The above questions will cover functionality as they will allow me to understand if my app works internally and externally through navigation and whether the content loads altogether.
Can you use the application with no problems with the navigational features?
This question will help me understand the usability of the app and how easy it is to navigate for the user as this is important as the app needs to be simple.
Do the interactive features of the app (links and map) work successfully?
This question is about the user interaction and whether the Map and link work on my app, this is what the client wants so this has to work so it fits the clients brief.
How long did it take to load?
This question covers load time and how long it takes for the pages and interactive features to come up.
Does the app look complete?
This question covers completeness making sure the app is complete or at least looks it. This is important as an unfinished app doesn't look very good.
Is the app accurate, for example is it proofread, spell-checked, is the text readable with the background colour and does it have clarity?
This question covers accuracy and how the app information is accurate or not. This is important as the accuracy must be correct otherwise i am giving them false information and misleading them.
Is the app accessible and easy to use? Is the text size clear?
This covers accessibly and how easy it is to use. This is important as the app must be easy to use as the target audience has a large range so all of the ages have to be able to use the app.
How is the performance of the app? For example, is the app optimised for the platform?
This question is about the performance and how the app is optimised for the platform. This is important as the performance of the app has to be good otherwise it will be hard to navigate through the app if the performance is bad.
All these question will help me understand whether my app works and what needs to be change. Also the feedback will be very helpful as it will help make my app look overall better and work the way the target audience want it to. This will make my app meet the brief as the client wants a working app that allows the user to interact and navigate to discover information about the town. This way I can make the app perfect for my target audience and fitting for my brief meeting what the client wants.
I am going to record my target audience using and navigating my app so that I can refer to the footage for feedback if I later want to develop and change my app.
0:00 - Does the Cambridge Guide app work? 0:32 - Does the navigational features work for the app? Are you able to navigate easily on the app? 1:00 - Does the content load? 1:14 - Can you use the application with no problems with the navigational features? 1:30 - Do the interactive features of the app (links and map) work successfully? 1:52 - How long did it take to load? 2:08 - Does the app look complete? 2:36 - Is the app accurate, for example is it proofread, spell-checked, is the text readable with the background colour and does it have clarity? 3:43 - Is the app accessible and easy to use? Is the text size clear? 4:21 - How is the performance of the app? For example, is the app optimised for the platform?
Actions on Audience Feedback
After getting my focus group to record audience feedback for me there are some change that i can make to make the app better as well as positives that my target audience like about the app like the simplicity and interactive features. At 0:50 Chessies explains how the hyperlink on the events page font is a little too small to read and is hard to see what it says. To make it more appealing to the audience I would change the size of the font to a larger font size so its easier to read. At 1:19 Hannah mentions that some of the interactive features are slow and require two click to get where the user wants to go which is a limitation in terms of how enjoyable the app usage is. This shows me that I should make sure the internet connection is good and that the links are 100% correct and work so hopefully there is no delay on the button. 2:05 Chessie just explains that the links are quite slow and could be sped up a bit. This is to do with internet so i feel like maybe i should make sure the user knows that their internet connection needs to be good and fast. 2:24 Hannah says that some of the font is not very nice and a bit off, I am able to go back and make the font look nicer and maybe bigger as at time s it is hard to read. 2:47 Andrew mentions that the colours used in the app are all over the place and that there is not theme going on. To improve this i can make more of a theme and make every page have the same colour and layout so there is a theme emerging. Also Hannah mention that it doesn't flow with the colours so if i make the colours the same the app will flow better. 3:22 - Hannah explained that the background images are too big and high in terms of the titles at the top making the time hard to read as well. For this i can make the background image title lower and smaller ensuring that the clock at the top is not covered.
What you will change in the app as a result of the feedback? As a result of the feedback from my focus group and results on the survey the first thing I would change is the size of the font on some pages and the hyper link on the events page. This is important as the target audience found it hard to use as the font was hard to read so it was hard to know where the link took you. Another aspect of my app I would change is the font i think that the best thing to do is look at the fonts given on Xcode and see how the fonts look, I could show the target audience all the selected fonts and ask them which they prefer so its more personal for them and what they like. My focus group didn't particularly like the colours I used and think that there should be more of a theme instead of random colours. This means that I should change the colours and make a theme of a colour that is constant so that the app flows. I will also make the background images smaller in terms of the title as it sometimes interfered with the time at the top of the user phone. Another thing my focus group pointed out is that the links were slow this could be to do with internet and content of the external page maybe if I link a page that has less content on it so the app doesn't have to load so much.
How you made these changes? To make the first change of the size of the font this is a simply change I would go back and make the font bigger so that it easier to read as well as the hyperlink as that was hard to read. The next one of change the font altogether this is simply as well as this is a matter of changing the background image in photoshop and changing the font completely. Then saving the image and putting it back in the app. If I were to show the target audience a range of fonts I can use the results on the survey to decide on a font then changing it to suit the target audience. Another thing was the colours to change this I would go back into photoshop and change the main colour on the background image this change is longer but the target audience don't like the colours so this way I can also make a theme with the same colour on each page so the app flows. Another thing to change is the size of the background images this would be done after the colour change and font change this would entail me making the title smaller and lower so it doesn't interfere with the time on the phone. The last thing is the slowness of the app, to fix this I would check the link and make sure that it correct but also maybe looking into getting a new link with less content on the external page so the app doesn't have to load so much.
