This shows me and my crew making my set. We started by resetting the previous set which was a kids bedroom before. We change it and turned it a round to look different because they way it looked before was not the design I wanted and a children's bedroom didn't fit my show. We flipped it to the brown colour and kept the door white because doors are normally painted. The darker duller brown adds to the fact its a horror drama.

00:02 - This is me trialling camera for my fellow classmates productions. It shows that I have the skills to operate a camera successfully involving zoom, focus and handling in general.
00:23 - Here is me doing the sound for Hannah Nightingales production, this shows I have the skills to operate a mixing desk and I know what the best level is for the sound to be perfect. The last segment is me using the equipment live and actually adjusting the audio to make sure it sounds alright |
0:04 - This is me in the gallery, flicking through the camera shots, checking headroom, colours and actors positioning.
0:14 - Here I am turning up the studio mic to talk to the actors and crew whilst in the studio. You can then see my sound technician Maria sorting the levels out as the actors talk to ensure the sound is perfect. 0:30 - Im directing Maria to check Mic 4 which is Charlie my actor to make sure the levels are alright. My Camera technician then comes in to make sure the cameras are alright in terms of gain ,colour focus exposure. 1:06 - Chessie is seen sorting out the white balance to ensure everything is the right colour. 2:27 - I have now started vision mixing and directing. Costume - Meaning is created behind the costume because Dr Smith is wearing formal clothes like a therapist would, nothing like a suit because it could be seen as overpowering which therapists don't want. The jumper and leggings give a casual but formal look. Jason is dressed in nice clothing, a simple jumper and jeans. The dark red of Jason's connotes danger which
Lighting - The lighting in the film creates a meaning because the shadows in the set create mystery. The light aspects are focused on key elements of the set like, books, plant, phone which connotes that Jason enjoys reading, he's intelligent, caring and that he's just a normal guy. The lack of light within the set, especially when he's in the corner connotes danger and the scariness of the darkness. It shows that something wrong has happened.
Actors - The actors I choose I believe suited the roles perfectly. Dr Smith (Katie) I know is a really good actress, her emotions on screen in other films showed me she was a good actress for my piece as she is amazing at being emotive and selling a story. Jason (Charlie) has been in several shows like Macbeth, and works well with Katie. He is good at getting into the characters and portraying them to their fullest. They are both the same age, this is done so they seem similar but yet are two polar opposites.
Movement - The movement of Jason, being sharp and violent, foreshadows that he is a violent person. The movements of Dr Smith when Jason refuses to let her see the baby as she turns, creates meaning by having it be sharp and abrupt like everything is changing now and even she doesn't know whats happening.
Make up - Meaning is created behind the make up with the fake blood, showing that Jason has killed Dr Smith and that blood was spilt. Also the staining from the blood also symbolises that the memories of killing Dr Smith will never leave his mind. The is also some blood now on Hope which connotes that blood was spilt over her and now she is also involved.
Props - The use of props was important in my piece, the books on the table were to show the audience that Jason is intelligent and an above average guy that cares about his knowledge, this is because I wanted the murder to be sudden and a shock to the audience. The baby doll was a huge prop for the story. Its what the story is about, to show how messed up Jason is
Setting - Meaning is created through setting as there are hints of intelligence with the books in the background as well as the tie hanging up which makes the audience believe he has an important job where a tie is necessary. Everything in the setting makes Jason seem normal, to juxtaposition the fact he's mentally unwell. However there are aspects of the set that are
Blocking - Meaning is created through blocking to show how something or someone is less important then the other. In my piece Jason blocks Dr Smith in several shots to show that he is the most important character in the show. The couch blocks Dr Smith as Jason is killing her to show how unimportant she is to the film.
The medium close up in this shot shows how sad the story Jason has told is. Therapists are not meant to show emotions and are meant to be strong for they patients however even Dr Smith believes this story is sad and hard hitting.
The High angle of this shot also shows that her sympathy and care towards him and Hope (as shes all he has left) could be her vulnerability in this sequence. |
This Medium Long shot creates meaning as it shows how angry Jason is in the background however the out of focus baby doll in the foreground is in front of Jason showing that Hope is the main focus of this sequence, she is why this is all happening.
This shot is also a slight high angle to show that now Jason is the vulnerable one because he's going to now be getting in a lot of trouble for what he's done. Also foreshadowing that he knows he's done wrong and feels stupid for it. |
This Close up shows that Jason is fragile. The focus is mainly on the blood on his hand to show that he's killed someone and has the evidence on his hand because of it.
The High angle shows that he is vulnerable and the fact he's holding Hope too shows he's weak for her and would do anything for her. |
