Final Concept
Character Concept I am thinking of doing a claymation for my piece i think this will be good for my target audience as other shows like Timmy time for small children is popular so i think they like claymation. Also you can make claymation very personal as expression can be more address in clay then other animations as they can be changed each frame. This is the kind of main character of my production. I believe this character will appeal to the target audience as the character looks friendly approachable and character full. Im think the dogs name could be Oliver
This is the next character in my show, this is the little lamb in the story that Oliver the dog helps.
Enviroment Concept This is what I want the environment to look like because a farms are appealing to children as they recognise there are animal on it which the target audience will appeal to as they are cute and friendly. Also the colour of the barn being red in a nice colour that represents passion and love which the audience may not know but could feel towards the character and feel more attached to the character, environment and show. And also this barn look is very stereotypical and recognisable so the children may like that as they will know whats happening and know where the show is based.
Running Time I imagine my running time being 10 minutes, this is because other claymation shows on CBBCies are 10 minutes long like Timmy Time. Shows like this are where i got my idea from so I'm going to have the same duration to appeal to the same target audience and also because I think it is a good amount of time to get a good message and story across. This is also a good time to get the BBC ethos is too being educate, entertain and inform which the clients wants as they mentioned in the clients brief. I think that 10 minutes is good for the audience too as too long of an episode they may get bored so 10 minutes isn't too long so they will stay engaged.
Target Audience I have decided to go with the Chosen Brief: Scenario 4 - "Tell A Story" Duration 1 minute + for the Cbeebies. This means my target audience is 0-6 years old. My product will appeal to the target audience because the main character is a friendly, kind, caring dog that children will fall in love with. The character will appeal to the audience because it will look cute and fluffy which i think the audience will like as they will want to be friend with it. Also his mannerisms like head tilts will appeal to the audience as well as they may start to do it and copy it so they will appeal to the character and what he does. Another way I think the target audience will appeal to the show is through the noises the characters makes as there is no dialogue so they can understand it better through body language and noise which can help them develop their own body language which will appeal to them as they will understand it. Another way the target audience will appeal to the show is through the music. This is because the music within the show will be playful, fun and engaging which they will like and want to hear more so come back and watch the show again. I think that the characteristics of the main character like the fact he helps others on the farm which the target audience will like as they will like is nice and friendly making them want to come back and watch another show to see what he helps out with next. I think that the content of the story will appeal to the target audience as well as they will feel a connection to the story of "left out" so they will feel like the show is personal to them making them feel special; making them want to come back and watch more.
P4: CREATE A PRE-PRODUCTION PLAN FOR THE ANIMATION
This footage covers me testing stop motion animation to see how good i was at it and to see if i could understand how to do it and see if it was too hard to do. After testing this animation i though i liked it as it allowed me to become the puppets i was manipulating making the animation seem more personal which I liked. The two doctor who animation at the beginning was done before I had an idea for my animation i wanted to do stop motion because I liked the idea of it so I tested my skills, and the outcome was that I enjoyed filming them and I like the challenge. After developing an idea and making my set and characters I wanted to test out the animation before I started with clay puppets with wire inside. The test showed that I am able to use clay and animate it successfully.
M2: Complete a SWOT analysis for the intended animation for the client.
Strengths: A big strength of my piece is the fact its a clay animation so its fairly cheap to make in comparison to 3D which is far more expensive. This is because I don't need to hire a lot of people to make the animation using expensive computers and software. All I need is a camera, stationary background, lights and clay. The animation can also generate a lot of money for the client because the animation could later use synergy to create different media products life DVD and toys. An addition to this is the strength that the animation won't require a lot of resources such as software to make. Another strength is that the clay characters can be reused so they are ready for each episode. Another strength is that the animation fits the BBC's ethos onto inform, educate and entertain. The animation entertains the audience by using the charcaters to make the audience happy. Also the music and sound effects will entertain the audience and keep them engaged. The animation also educates young viewers on the right morals of helping others out and being friendly to everyone. Another strength is that the program is known to work with other programmes like Timmy Time which is the same target audience and a clay animation. Which is a positive for the client as well because they know that this kind of animation is working. Another strength is that it follows the CBeebies brand and it fits right in, because most programmes on CBeebies are colourful and engaging. Weaknesses A weakness is that the animation will take a long time to make it because it is a claymation. Even though the program is about 10-15 minutes, it will still a while to make because it's claymation, meaning that the client cannot distribute a lot of episodes at once. Another weaknesses is that claymation may not be very high quality compared to 3D animation, claymation doesn't look as visually appealing.
Opportunities One opportunity is that the TV program use synergy to branch off to other media like Toys and DVD. For example, if the TV program becomes very popular it could develop into movies like Timmy Time. Another opportunity is that it could lead to the program being broadcasted on other channels, like in different countries which means a larger audience.
Threats A big threat of my show is that there are other shows similar to my show like Timmy time which could be a large competition for my show. However my show is unique with is characters and storylines so this will appeal to the target audience and also fill a gap in the market. Another threat is the lack of skill i have in making animations especially stop motion so a threat could be how good it will look after.
